Frequently Asked Questions

How do you adapt counselling for autism?
I understand that meeting someone new can be particularly difficult, so I will do my best to accommodate your needs.

If you are having your sessions in person, I will check with you what adjustments you would like me to make.  I have a range of fidget and sensory toys that you can use, or you are welcome to bring your own. I use lamps for low lighting. You can see what I look like but if you would like to see a video of the room, I am happy to provide that for you.

I know that it can sometimes take a while to process information, so I will make sure that you understand everything and give you as much time as you need to think things through, so you do not feel under pressure to respond.

What can I expect in a session?
I use the first session to conduct an assessment.  This gives me the chance to get to know you better, to get a sense of what life has been like for you until now and to understand what you would like to get from your sessions.  It will also give you the chance to get to know me and to ask any questions you may have.

This will help us agree a focus or direction for our sessions.  Each week, I will ask you what you would like to focus on in your session.  You may want to use your time to talk about something that is affecting you, or you may prefer to develop coping strategies and techniques.

How many sessions will I need?
That is entirely up to you and depends on how much you would like to discuss in your sessions and what your goals are.  At the end of each session, we will agree what you would like to do next.

How often do sessions take place?
Ongoing sessions take place on a weekly basis.  Once you have confirmed that you want to go ahead, that slot will be yours until you decide that you no longer need it.

Single Session Therapy sessions take place once.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions take place in my private practice in New Alresford or online via Zoom.

What ages do you work with?
I work with adults and young people (16years+) who live in the UK.
